On Friday, Oct. 2, students, faculty, staff and donors gathered to rededicate the Mabee Learning Resource Center after its $13-million renovation was completed.
The Schmieding Foundation Academic Success Center now brings student academic services together in one place. Plenty of seating and tables provide a space for students to study, hang out or work on class projects together.
Ground Floor Coffee, the student-run coffee shop previously located in a hard-to-find townhouse basement, now has more seating and has seen a 147% growth in sales from the same period last year. Spees Plaza provides an adjoining outdoor space with a louvered pergola, lighting, radiant heaters, ceiling fans, a gas firepit and a small stage for intimate concerts and events.
Upstairs, the Mark Simmons Library is now flooded with natural light, and the reading room provides great views of campus. The multiple study rooms are enhanced with artwork gifted to the university by Dede Hutcheson.
