After 40 years in Christian higher education and 28 years at JBU, our beloved Jane Beers — associate professor of biology — is retiring.
When we sat down with her to reflect on her time here, she kept coming back to one thing: ‘life together.’
For decades, she has helped our community grow. Not just as strong academics, but also as thoughtful people, supported and challenged by a community that believes in us.
"You’ve got to be a whole person,” she said. “Head, heart, and hand.”
Former students have said to her, “Thank you for not making it easy. Thank you for telling me I could do this. It was not easy, but I was supported.”
Professor Beers described JBU as a place where different people learn from one another and where everybody has a role to play.
She also spoke warmly about the college's future and the faculty who will continue her work.
“I’ll miss it,” she said, “but I’m ready.”
In honor of her legacy, a tree now stands in front of Bell Science Hall as a reminder of the countless lives she has impacted through her faithful service, encouragement, and care.
Thank you, Jane Beers.
